Description
Until the 19th century, Roman Catholic ossuaries that displayed human bones were an important part of the burial culture in Switzerland. “Ossarium – Beinhauser der Schweiz” (book in German) covers the history of ossuaries in Switzerland and answers questions about the contemporary significance of these chapels. The publication is a mix of photography and texts to describe Swiss ossuaries that still hold human bones. Written by Yves Müller and Anna-Katharina Höpflinger, the book furthermore contains an interview with Jean-Pierre Brunner (Priest of Naters) as well as guest articles by Melanie Eyer (Study of Religion, University of Lucerne), Paul Koudounaris (Art historian and subject matter expert on death cults) and Regula Odermatt-Burgi (Art historian and subject matter expert on burial culture).
